April grew up in Saskatchewan within the Ukrainian-Canadian culture, and spent 11 years in Northern BC on Ts’msyen territory. During that time, she served a largely Indigenous population in a variety of social service roles and operated an outdoor adventure company.
The foundation of April’s career has been supporting women, children and youth as survivors of violence and abuse in their families, homes and intimate partner relationships. She has been working in social services for 14 years, counselling and consulting for counsellors for approximately 8 years in community based, non-profit and private settings in rural, remote and urban environments, in wilderness, gardens, offices and online. She is adaptive and integrative in her approach, adjusting for your needs, priorities, preferences and stage of development.
April is drawn to nature-based therapies based on her own relationship with the natural world, wilderness, adventure and gardening.
Areas of focus include: trauma and PTSD, sexual abuse, intimate partner violence, traumatic brain injuries, ADHD, Autism, chronic pain and illness, anxiety and stress-related issues and she loves working with children, youth and the LGBTQ2SI+ and neurodivergent communities.
Approaches and modalities include: nature-based therapy, EMDR, mindfulness, the Safe and Sound Protocol, pain reprocessing therapy and CBT within a culturally sensitive, person-centered, strengths-based framework.
